  1. Damn! Do you know I am translating the Eero’s Solar System into Portuguese?

The West seems like the perfect project to make me start translating again. Thanks! 🙂

  2. Hoy, 🙂

Cool! Let me know when you’re getting close to finishing it. I will:

    1) Proofread your stuff, if you want; and
    2) Translate The West for you as well. 🙂

    Cheers,
    J.

  3. It’s still at its beginning stages but I’m working on it. Thanks for teh support.

  4. Ralek says:

Are you doing a direct translation (meaning no systemic changes) or are you making an adaptation of Solar System which happens to be in portuguese?

I’m asking this because Solar System itself was born out of the finish translation of TSoY. It started out being a direct translation, then Eero started adding some rules clarifications, then some changes, and the end result is what you see now.

If its the first, I wish you the best of luck with it and second João’s offer. If you need help proofreading, you can count me in.

If it is the second I would LOVE to talk to you about it. Solar System is a pretty good system, but has a lot of “issues”. As examples of issues you may want to read the last two The West posts by JMendes on the Arkenstone forums at the forge.

  5. I’m doing a direct translation of the Solar System by Eero minus the vignette by the other authors.

Either way I’ve carte blanche (a strong recommendation, really) from him to adapt it at will. So we can fix that issues you mention. Got any vignettes to add to it? 🙂

  6. Ralek says:

The issues I talk about are not something that can really be fixed per se on a “this is the way to fix it” kind of way. It is a matter of how you view the game should be played and Eero and I definitely have differering views and since the SS rules booklet don’t really say how the game should be played (which is something that is incredibly common or I dare say, that is universal, in RPG rules no matter what they are), those aren’t easy issues to fix. What is worse in SS’s case is that the rules as written support Eero’s own way of playing in some cases and mine in others sometimes going as far as the rules themselves clashing with one another. In any case, I believe you do have my contact and if not you can reach me by either messaging or emailing through AbreOJogo.

  7. I understand. I don’t have a lot of experience in playing SS (or TSOY for that matter) so I was taking what Eero wrote for granted, even if it was more of a toolkit than anything elese.

Overall it seemed like a nice generic rules-set for the solar system that cried out to be translated into Portuguese. I don’t feel qualified to do a straight-up adaption of the system but I’m very curious about yours and João’s take on the rules.

I’ll tell you what, it would be great if you added the rules as you see it next to The West so that I can translate it with ease a publish it as a stand-alone game. 🙂
